There are very few places in life that are untouched, unspoiled and so beautifully raw in nature. This is true for Bishop’s Cove. I don’t think I will soon get a chance to stay at a place so remote and so magnificently natural.
Staying at the Forest’s Edge
It was such a unique experience being able to spend a few nights in the wonderful forests edge of Tsitsikamma in the Eastern Cape. I say on the forests edge as this is where we were. Our front door opened up right on natures doorstep in more ways than one. Your eye is spoilt for choice as from the veranda of The Lodge you are greeted with sweeping views of the ocean like none other and on the other side, beautiful, natural forest.
The only thing your eye can see on either side was either beautiful lush vegetation or gorgeous blue clear seas. Honestly it was not only good for mind and body but truly good for the soul. I must be honest and say what I loved most was the absolute pristine, fresh air.
Bishop’s Cove is such a special place in that it is a home shared. There is a main family house and then two chalets. It is a place where you come to make memories, relax and unwind and enjoy the simple things in life.
The Sunbird Cottage, boasting views of the forest is a fully self-catering unit.
The Sea Cottage, boasting sea views, is rented in conjunction with the main house as it does not have it’s own kitchen – perfect for teenagers or grandparents looking for quiet.
Image on the left is on the side of the mountain as we made our way from the homestead to the private beach the property has access to. The image on the left is how on the edge of the forest we were.
Fill your days hiking through the forests, swimming in the ocean and enjoying the beach – all totally private and a short hike from the home. You can also do longer walks to neighbouring farms and enjoy the gems to be discovered. Read, relax and regroup – Bishop’s Cove is a place that will make you feel 10 years younger!

2 nights stay in a self catering cottage, guided walks and sole access to private beach
My hubby and I also loved learning about the stories of the people who live nearby and our little one just loved the freedom and ability to explore without hesitation. My only real advice is, you need to stay a few nights, even a week as you will quickly get the feeling of wanting to stay a while soon after arriving.
Tsitsikamma National Park
An absolute must when visiting this part of South Africa is visiting Tsitsikamma National Park. There is so much to see and do and is certainly a thrill for the adrenaline seekers. The natural environment is a real treat. Expect to see small waterfalls, a beautiful decked walking area, the popular suspension bridge and much much more.
