I know everyone loves summer but have you spent a winter in the Cape? Winter in the Cape offers some of the most magnificent sunsets which are heightened by the parallel of the chill in the air. People often plan their holidays around pool days and sunscreen but my family and I love getting around in winter. While others are hibernating, it offers such a wonderful time to be out and about meaning less crowds, cosy cuddle ups and endless fireplace days! This was the case at La Petite Ferme during the winter period.

We arrived as it looked like a storm was about the break so we were happy to reach this beautiful boutique hotel just minutes before the rain set in. From the moment we arrived at the gate, staff were welcoming and happy to have us there. I felt cared for and valued.

Making Ourselves at Home
We entered through the reception area where someone was waiting for us to commence checkin while enjoying a lovely welcome drink and refreshing warm towels – I love this, so comforting on a winters day but also refreshing after a long drive.
We did a quick walk through the property and what I loved about the design and layout was that it did not encroach on nature rather it remained subtle and let the beautiful valley and mountainous area triumph. I felt humbled by the elegant features, so much so that it made the place feel even more luxurious.
We were shown to our room which was absolutely divine and while settling in, caught the most glorious sunset. Our room offered the most incredible vantage point to enjoy the sweeping views of the valley and Franschhoek mountain – waking up in the mornings we could open the curtains and watch the view – this we savoured for the splendour that it is and something I am still thinking about.
A Generous Spirit
Something that struck me at La Peite Ferme was the generosity of spirit. We were treated to the winter menu at the restaurant which was most certainly a culinary delight. We had the 3 course menu which was so enchanting and special with a mix of flavours celebrating South African heritage on a global scale appealing to all taste buds. The plates of food looked absolutely beautiful complimented with extraordinary taste and feeling of comfort and fulfilment. We had the best time and it is such great value for a world class experience.
Adding to the perks of winter in the Cape are the delicious wine tastings. I enjoyed the flagship wine tasting with some other guests during our stay and absolutely loved learning about the different wines that they cultivate on the estate. Doing this next to a lovely cosy fireplace was just the cherry on top and a fantastic thing to do during our stay. My family and I also enjoyed a cake of the day at the hotel which was the perfect end to the day.
On my way to the wine tasting in the chilly rain vs cuddling up near the fire place to enjoy the flagship tasting.
A Spoil to Savour
I must admit that my most favourite thing about our stay was the turn down service. Imagine it is a cold and wet winters night, you are returning from a glorious dinner, you walk into your hotel room and the fire is lit, the room is toasty and warm with a dim light. You make your way over to the bedroom and slippers are laid out, the bed is prepared and snug and there is water and a little chocolate waiting in the sweetest glass dome. I felt totally doted on and loved every minute of it.
In the walk in closet area there were lovely bathrobes, even a mini one for our little traveller and as you can imagine this left the hugest smile on all our faces.
Thank you La Peite Ferme for the most magnificent stay where every detail was thought out and the dedication to making guests feel at home was truly felt. If you are looking for a place where your presence is cherished and elegance is felt in every facet then this is certainly the right place.

More to do in Franschhoek
*We visited the famous car museum during our weekend getaway which was a great way to spend time indoors considering the weather. There are various shops in town to enjoy as well as galleries and gardens which are a great way to enjoy this special little town. There are incredible hiking trails and much to appreciate in this beautiful little Franschhoek valley and lovely gardens to walk through in town.
Thank you for sharing this.
