Say hello to your perfect country escape. Nested in a small town close to Cape Town, Bluebell Farm cottages is the place you have been dreaming of!
When you think of the perfect weekend getaway, one thinks of a wood fired hot tub, cosy fireplaces, mountain views and a deep soaking bath so melt all your sorrows and worries away. Not only is all of that here, but there is the added taste and unspoilt nature that will allow you to breathe and fill your tank.
Emerging through Nature is your Bluebell Cottage
We arrived for a midweek break in November and approached the cottage as if in a scene in a movie. The cottage emerges through nature, rolling clouds and mountains revealing itself as the tranquil oasis it is. We approached the cottage to see that our wood fired hot tub was already lit and getting super toasty for us to jump in. We were all so excited by this. There was some rain that felt like it came out of nowhere but we were too happy to go tubing in the rain – it actually made it more exciting and the whole hot tub felt much more rewarding. I was reminded and in that moment and lived that expression of “life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning how to dance in the rain” and that really suited the occasion.
I must say that the hot tub was really nice being wood fired – it was our first time using one of these and it felt good to be eco-conscious in our enjoyment of the hot tub. The other thing Bluebell does really well is that the entire cottage is geared towards sustainability and is eco-conscious which is really important and something that must be applauded. The unit uses solar panels, gas and makes an effort to encourage non misuse of electrical appliances.

The Cottage Setup
Upon entering the cottage the open plan living lends itself to a freeing, homely space. With a clean and fresh look and all the amenities and comforts of home, the cottage is set up so that you do not need to leave or go anywhere for the duration of your stay. This is a place to savour, sink into and spend time appreciating nature, the joys of the simple life and your loved ones.
Although called a cottage, the space is large. There are 2 bedrooms each equipped with a full bathroom – might I add bathtubs with glorious mountain views and the absolute showstopper, their own fireplaces. This is what dreams and restoration looks like! What is it about a crackling fireplace that makes us so happy.
The location of the cottages offers guests the opportunity to go on lovely nature walks not too far from the cottage and an incredible picnic spot with a built lookout point that you can climb for a higher vantage point. This was really special and filled all our faces with the hugest of smiles. There are also loads of stunning plant species to appreciate nearby – I have not seen such tall protea trees before!
Catering at Bluebell
Bluebell has a catering component to the establishment too which is quite lovely. We were lucky enough to be able to try their quaint picnic and one of their meal boxes which was in the fridge waiting for us already when we arrived. The cottage also comes with a pretty picnic basket and blanket which makes the activity look dreamy and special.
This place is where love gets to linger a little longer as everything is set up for you to relax and enjoy life the way it was meant to be lived. In harmony, with nature and making memories with the people closest to you.
