Nkosi Lodge, Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe

A celebration of nature, Victoria Falls is a wonder indeed.

Praise to Nkosi Lodge

As part of the Bayete Collection, Nkosi Lodge was the place we called home for our 4 nights in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. As we were travelers from South Africa, we did not need to go very far to reach this town of much wonder. A short flight (one and a half hours from O.R Tambo International airport) and we were at our destination in no time at all.

The Best Swim of Our Lives

We were eager to get to the lodge after our flight, it was hot and we were excited to see what this world renowned destination had to offer. We arrived at Nkosi and we were welcomed as if arriving home. We settled in effortlessly as the team let us know of logistical information during our stay. We immediately made use of the pool and pool area to cool off and wind down on that first day. It was wonderful, just what we needed: a bit of relaxation before our busy day that was to follow.

It’s All About the Food

That evening we had dinner at the lodge which was nothing short of excellent! The food was carefully crafted, oh so flavourful and wholesome. Plus the portion sizes were not shy by any means which we of course were not disappointed about. The produce itself was of superior quality and I might even go as far as to say some of the best we have had on our travels across the world! We of course had breakfast each morning at the lodge as well which was equally delightful and certainly sustained us in our busy days.

Something that makes Nkosi special is the people – they feel like family. We felt this really made the stay extra special as being away from home or in a foreign place can sometimes leave you feeling out of sorts, which was certainly not the case here. Staff are thoughtful in their conversations, respectful of you, your space and take a genuine interest in you. I have only praise for Nkosi lodge and it’s people. The staff accommodated us as you would a dear relative and that gave a personal touch like no other.

Our Room

Our lodge room was a dream. In pristine condition, we were more than comfortable. The bathroom was neat, clean and well looked after. It came with amenities and I have to say was quite a bit bigger than your average bathroom which was nice, especially as a family. A note that there was a bath as well as a shower in our room which was another lovely surprise. Our room was very spacious and well maintained. It looked inviting, aesthetically appealing and in high caliber. There was care given in every blanket fold and every pillow tuck. To the ladies who did this, thank you for showing heart in these small gestures.

The Nkosi Team

The management team is very good at keeping up to date with your schedule and are extremely diligent when it comes to where their guests are going and with who. I found this tremendously reassuring. They are always happy to call you a taxi and offer suggestions of where to go and what to do during your stay. The lodge is very well located and getting to the main destinations around town are no more than a 15 minute car ride which is extremely convenient.

We enjoyed speaking with the various staff at Nkosi and felt we got a real sense of the people living in Victoria Falls which was truly appreciated and we felt privileged to learn more about this special town.

We had an incredible experience at Nkosi lodge and can only sing their praises. Thank you for a stay that will withstand the test of time.

Below a video provided by Nkosi Lodge which is a fly through of the lodge giving an overview of the property, space and amenities.

A look at Victoria Falls

A Natural Wonder indeed, below are some images from the rainforest and a short clip for an idea of the walking experience at the falls.

This is a very short clip at the Victoria Falls rainforest from the edge of the forest. This is taken from the pedestrian walkway. Visit was on 30 September 2024. A great time of year to visit with clear visibility when at the rainforest.

Activities in Victoria Falls

We worked with some incredible activities partners in Victoria Falls offering us some of the best activities one can do on your trip to Victoria Falls.

If you are looking for an itinerary on how to spend 4 days in Vic Falls, below is how we used our time in this town of much wonder.

4 Day itinerary of activities: what to do in Victoria Falls (travelling with a toddler)

Arrival Day

We had an afternoon flight so we got to the lodge in the late afternoon. Luckily everything is relatively close-by so we did not have to be too concerned on timings. We were received at our lodge, settled into our room and relaxed by the pool for the rest of the afternoon. We decided to do this as we had a very full day planned for the next day. We had dinner at the lodge (which was amazing) and rested up.

Day 1

We were up early and ready to tackle our full day of fun. We started with a full breakfast (which definitely served us well for our day of being out and about). We were collected from the lodge and headed off for a morning helicopter ride. this was incredible – I felt it was a really great way to not only view the falls, which was absolutely incredible, but also to get perspective of the area. After our heli ride, we headed to the rainforest to see the falls up close and personal. It was really hot and so we were quite quick as we wanted to get out of the heat – we probably spent about 2 hours here. If you visit in summer, go early so you avoid the worst of the heat while still having enough time to appreciate the area.

After being at the rainforest, we headed back to our lodge were we had a bite to eat and a much needed rest. We were up within an hour or so as we needed to catch our transfer to the jetty for our river cruise. This was 3 hours including turnaround time. We skipped a full dinner that evening as we received a lovely snack plate and bottomless drinks on the cruise boat.

Day 2

We planned to go back to the rainforest that morning but, my little boy got hurt tripping and so he was in no mood to do much. After he settled, we headed to the crocodile park – in our attempt to cheer him up. We saw a large number of crocs and did a tour through the croc farm which also had a lot of snakes in a enclosed area of course. My little one perked up as he was able to hold a baby croc by himself.

After that we headed to Baines restaurant which was beautiful. On the way to the restaurant, you can stop at the Big Tree which is really nice. We enjoyed some drinks before heading back to our lodge. We had a rest before getting ready to go on the steam safari with Bushtracks. You can review the full experience on the blog post here. It was absolutely incredible and a must if you are visiting Victoria Falls.

Day 3

On the third day we took the opportunity to explore the town of Victoria Falls where you can visit the shops, restaurants and spend time amongst some of the people. We enjoyed chatting to some locals and strolling around. We then headed back to the lodge for a rest before getting ready to go on our game drive. This was a long activity so we needed to make sure we had all our wits about us. We spotted so many wonderful animals and had a lovely time. After the game drive we headed to three monkeys for dinner which we could not wait for as we worked up a huge appetite, the food was wonderful. After that, we took a short walk down to the theatre for the show. I wrote a full blog post covering the activities we did here.

Day 4

We enjoyed our last breakfast at the lodge before packing up. We then spent some time with the staff and glad we did as the manager suggested we head to the lookout cafe which was absolutely incredible and the perfect way to send off our stay in Victoria Falls. We only had milkshakes sadly as we did not have enough time but I am so glad we stopped off here before leaving as it was truly spectacular. We then headed to the airport before waiting to board the plane home.

Please see this blog post outlining the activities we took part in. As well as a premium experience with Bushtracks which can be viewed here.
