Chez Pierre, Knysna – South Africa

Going on holiday is a magical time. There are so many phenomenal places to visit in South Africa and of course, the garden route is an absolute must for locals and foreigners alike. One of the mandatory stops on this famous route – or even an individual visit in its own right – is the beautiful town of Knysna. Picturesque, beautiful, special – just a few words that come to mind when thinking of this lovely place. Even though a relaxing and well known retirement spot, Knysna has a lot to offer visitors with many different activities and sites.

Visiting One of the Islands and Getting to Know your Host

Situated on Leisure Ilse, one of the most sought after areas in Knysna – great for quick walks, has nearby restaurants and shops, the beach, and there is an incredible lookout point of the Knysna heads. Geographically, it’s really accessible which makes things nice and easy for comings and goings.

When you first arrive at Chez Pierre, you can’t help but feel welcome, relaxed and at home. Walking through the beautiful double doors is really special and you immediately feel comfortable, like you want to put your feet up and practice a magical super power of making coffee or Prosecco disappear – it really does feel like you’ve arrived home and can merely put your feet up and be.

home away from home is definitely the best way to describe it and would you believe it, Chez Pierre actually means “at home with Pierre”. The name is so fitting that the meaning behind the name is this after having said “I feel so at home here” and then learning how it lived up to its namesake.

Pierre, the owner is really is everything you would like in a host of an intimate and beautiful guesthouse. He’s passionate about Knysna, a great conversationalist and if you ask, he will happily tell you the stories of his carefully curated pieces of art and decor. There are small things that really make your time at Chez Pierre memorable, one of my favourite things about Pierre is when we returned from having gone out, he would always ask how our time was and we got to recount our outing, commuting cherished moments to memory.

The Knysna Elephant Park

During our stay we visited the Knsyna elephant park which was an incredible way to meet these glorious animals.

Enjoying the Guesthouse Space

The guesthouse has plenty to offer to unwind and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The pool area is really great with a number of sun beds or deck chairs to choose, breakfast can also be taken here which really is the perfect start to the day. Enjoy yummy croissants, eggs & bacon, as well as fruits and cereals. Coffee of course is bottomless to supply the needed fuel for a funday out.

You will notice Lynn, Pierre’s wife, as she does yoga out on the deck with guests or running her clothing store from the guesthouse. It really adds another special layer to Chez Pierre showing off it’s owners hybridity

And yes of course, you can expect Belgian waffles! Chez Pierre makes and sells waffles to guests and the public at large. They are absolutely delicious and scrumptious – light, fluffy and crispy. All in all, there is always something happening, the right amount of business coupled with the space to unwindand relax. An average day is met with French songs and the smell of waffles and breakfast on the go.

There are a number of rooms to choose from at ChezPierre – 4 double rooms and 2 family rooms making it ideal for parents with children. Expect to feel on holiday with blue and white as the main trope across decor elements. A quick note on this – family rooms are kept private to give all guests space to enjoy themselves.

Knsyna is an incredibly beautiful place and you will certainly see why people return year after year.
